Helen Turner About Me Photograph of Helen Turner

I was born in 1980 and grew up in the North East of England. With an artistic granny, father and uncle, and after a childhood of constant doodling, it seemed inevitable that I would seek a career as an illustrator.

After receiving my BA Honours in Graphic Design at Nottingham Trent University in 2003, I found my big break illustrating the problem pages for Mizz magazine and star signs for Bliss magazine.

In 2005 I started illustrating for children's educational books. Working for Oxford University Press and QED Publishing, I have illustrated a wide variety of interesting characters - from alien teachers and tyrannosaurus rex to children with magic socks and talking dolls!

A series of books I have illustrated called "Everybody Feels." by Jane Bingham, will be published by QED in September 2006.

Some of the quirkiest characters I have been asked to draw would have to be Misty, Ellie, Sophie, Holly, Scarlett and Lucy of the Mermaid SOS series by Gillian Shields. This is the first fiction series I have illustrated and I have loved working on the books! They were published in September 2006 by Bloomsbury.
